Instructor: Chris Woodard, Artist and Acera Creativity Morning teacher.
Stop Motion Animation & Set Design (7-15)
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, AM, PM and Full Day option
Find out how you can use your phone or iPad to make cartoons out of your own drawings, or films using sets you create yourself. Learn the art of using each frame or picture a camera takes to tell a story. Make your own movie, or join a team of friends in an epic co-production. Storyboarding, set design and animation come into play as you explore, build and create, one frame at a time. Students can sign up for single days or all three days. Instructor: Mark Lyman, Acera Creativity Morning Coach
Woodshop Program (7-10) THIS SESSION IS NOW FULL!
Wednesday, Full Day only
Students will make a wooden coin bank. You will learn how to plan a construction project, how to use hammers, saws, and other basic tools, with the help of our experienced teachers. No previous woodworking skills required. Instructor: Marie Delaney, Acera Creativity Morning construction coach
SEEDS StudioLab (7-15)
Thursday & Friday, AM, PM or Full Day options
On Thursday, we will hack toys: let’s open up electronic toys and see what’s inside — sensors, circuits, batteries, lights — and use these resources in our own creations! Students can sign up for one or both days. On Friday, we will try our hands at Mirror Laser Art, making kaleidoscopes and other creations by building with mirrors and lights. Based on sign-ups, skill levels and previous exposure, we will work in smaller teams, keeping sessions both engaging and challenging for all. Lead instructor: Acera Design Learning and STEM teacher Alisha Panjwani. Below, a quick video of a recent SEEDS Studiolab project.
Architecture Series (7-15)
Wednesday & Thursday, AM, PM or Full Day option
On Wednesday, we will look at Animal Architecture: Taking inspiration from shells, delicate spider webs, coral reefs and more, we will design and construct our own imaginary architecture inspired by the planet’s best architects: the non-humans! On Thursday, we will try our hand at Green Architecture: Spring will be in the air, and we will about the innovative ways in which designers use green roofs and walls to create sustainable eco habitats. We will investigate interesting architectural forms and experiment with green building techniques. Students will each create their own eco-structure, embedded with wheat grass seed, which will grow and provide a healthy snack well into the spring. Instructor: Estee Hill, Architecht, educator and Acera Creativity Morning teacher
Engineering Challenges (8-15)
Thursday & Friday, AM, PM and Full Day option
On Thursday, we will explore structural design: challenge yourself to build strong structures out of simple materials, such as popsickle or chop sticks. Which shapes hold up the most weight? How can you engineer your tower or building to hold the most weights? We’ll do a fun weigh-out at the end! On Friday, we will look into the physics of floating. We will make and float objects, and to study what makes the best canoes, boats and swimming toys along the way. Of course, the physics of sinking may also come into play! Students can join just for one or both days. Instructor: Adam Rosell, Acera Creativity Morning construction coach
